The Erth Is Blue

Toribashians!

As some of you may have noticed there are two new smods joining the ranks on the forum. Sir is returning to the position after a hiatus and Erth is taking on the role for the first time. Rather than read about what I have to say about Erth why don’t you go ahead and read what he has to say for himself. Special thanks to our guest interviewer Stellar.

    [05:50] <Stellar> Interview Time
    [05:50] <Erth> Ohgod
    [05:51] <Stellar> Well first off I’d like to say congratulations on getting Super Moderator
    [05:51] <Stellar> I might be a bit biased but I think it’s about time..
    [05:52] <Erth> Heh, thanks, I’m looking forward to it
    [05:53] <Stellar> I understand you have quite a few staff positions, you mind letting the readers know what you did to help the community before your big step-up in the power ladder.
    [05:55] <Erth> Well I’m a GameMaster (still doing those duties) and a clan mod most notably, then i was also a replay board mod, and events board mod and a gamegrad tester
    [05:55] <Erth> along with blogging too
    [05:56] <Stellar> Do you think having all of these positions shaped you into a better applicant for Smod?
    [05:57] <Erth> I guess experience never hurts, and I’ve been a gm for quite a while so, yeah, all in all
    [06:02] <Stellar> How do you expect to help the community during your term as smod?
    [06:04] <Erth> Well I’m hoping that i’ll be able to help out the gm team some more, and to deal with some of the more complex ingame related scams
    [06:04] <Erth> I’m hoping to remain as an “ingamey” person, except now I can help on a larger scale
    [06:06] <Stellar> Given the fact that you are one of the most respected players in toribash, how do you think the community feels about you getting Smod?
    [06:12] <Erth> Hmmm, well I wouldn’t say that :p but thank you
    [06:12] <Erth> the reaction seems pretty positive so far, a lot of congratulations so far – didn’t really expect such a big deal about it
    [06:13] <Stellar> Stop being such a bitch and be honest
    [06:13] <Stellar> You’re soaking in the fame
    [06:13] <Stellar> You cheeky bastard
    [06:16] <Erth> :<
    [06:16] <Stellar> Serious talk though, so how do you feel about the current smods
    [06:17] <Stellar> Trick question, they all suck
    [06:17] <Erth> Well the forum isn’t exploding so how do you feel about the current smods
    [06:17] <Stellar> Trick question, they all suck
    [06:17] <Erth> Well the forum isn’t exploding so I’d say they’re doing the right things
    [06:17] * Stellar cough Solax
    [06:17] <Erth> Except solax, that guy sucks
    [06:17] <Erth> !!!
    [06:17] <Stellar> Anyways, you’ve been my mate for a few years and I know from personal expierience that you’ll do a great job
    [06:18] <Stellar> You’re a valued member of the community and I wish you the best of luck
    [06:18] <Erth> heh, here’s hoping I will, and thank you :p
    [06:18] <Stellar> Have a good one
    [06:18] <Erth> you too

So if you see him on the forum give him a wave and make sure to bother him with all of your problems.

Until next time. o7

Toribash 4.0 The Wait Is Over

Sup readers. Today is the day that you’ve been waiting for for so long. You’ve spent sleepless nights thinking about, spent workless days dreaming about and now it’s finally here!

Long awaited, Toribash 4.0 is the latest and greatest Toribash game client anticipated for years. The thing that gets people most excited about this (other than a bunch of new features like hair) is the psychological knowing that Toribash is still alive. There have discussions in the recent past over the current direction of the game and some believe that it is headed on a slow but sure downward spiral. Others argue that Toribash 4.0 is exactly what is needed to reignite the game. The current heading for Toribash is a bit hard to decipher but there are talks about having Toribash on Steam soon. If this is true and carried out it would hopefully bring a new wave of players to the game as well as getting some great exposure for the game. As for long term, I feel confident that in the next few years Toribash could quite likely grow to become an international competitive Esport. (I’d love to be a commentator for that)

Anyway, for all the awesomeness and info on Toribash 4.0 head over to the news thread hampa just shot up, grab a client and have fun experiencing Toribash at the best it’s ever been. See you in the dojo!

World Championships 2012 – Get Excited!

Aw yee, sup everyone. I’m Solax and I’ll be your guide to this years Toribash World Championships.

The event had signups last week and is now under way. Over the next few weeks 235 contestants will battle it out to determine who the supreme Toribash player is. Other than that title and extravagant bragging rights, the winner will walk away with an untradeable trophy item, a winner achievement, a demon/void force and relax and blood (winner chooses colour), one year of TP/VIP and one month 200 TC Booster. Second and third places get pretty cool stuff too which you can check out here.

I had a quick chat to Uric, one of the main forces behind the championships.

Mind telling me quickly how this World Championship will be better than any other?

Because this time around we have the different mods in each round as opposed to starting off with 3 matches in judo, then 5 in aikido, etc, etc, etc working up to the final. It means that the great all rounders won’t get knocked out early by the no lifers who are good at one mod.It tests all round skill and ability.

Do you have an approximate deadline for the entire event? So, any idea when we will know our new champion?

Hopefully within a month. But we’ll allow some extra time if it’s needed. As it gets nearer the end, the GMTs become further apart and you have to start waiting on weekends for matches. But it’s always worth it for such a decorated event.

Given the still exponential growth of the community and game, do you see a future for Toribash as a recognized eSport?

Yes. I really see this game going places. There is FAR more ingame interest nowadays, and it’s just consistently increasing. Sitting in the beginner rooms there are countless new people who have just stumbled across the game and loving it. (suggesting to friends and whatnot). It’s only going to get better from here.

So you’ve heard it from Uric. Wouldn’t it be cool to have Toribash as a proper competitive eSport? It’s all possible. Play the game, tell your friends.

That’s all from me. Take care and enjoy the championships.

Fancy Yourself A Marketer?

Wassarp me hearties?

Do you fancy yourself a marketer? Sailing the sea that is the item or art board day upon day, searching for the perfect bargain? Do you draw tired of the endless pirates, sailing the same sea, scamming and rule breaking? How would you feel about shooting down those pirates, cleaning the sea and sinking some merchant tc ships along the way?

If so, the Market Squad sounds like the place for you. Well that’s great right? And why am I telling you this? Well because they are now recruiting brave new deck-hands to help out on their quest. You get to see behind the scenes of the market and work with other market savvy sailors along the way.

If you’re interested in joining, Pm Cap’n hanz0 right away. Only one hook in the fish, you have to include a picture. But not just any picture, a picture that has playground equipment and Godzilla and Batman. This is in accordance of the new laws of Privateering as stated by his majesty, ishi.

If you feel like you have what it takes, screw on your hook, tie up your bandanna and head on over to the Market Squad.

See you on the Seven Seas. o7

Slight Forum Malfunctions

Good day all,

As some of you have claimed to have witnessed in the last few days, the forum seems to have been playing up. As much as I hate to admit it, you are right. There are some technical difficulties going on at the moment. The mod team has tried vigorously to cover it up but in the end, it’s kinda hard to deny. It’s nothing too drastic but if you do see anything out of the ordinary on the forum please report it to me immediately. Investigation is still under way and patches are being implemented but it’s only a matter of time before the dam wall may burst, so to say. We need your observant eyes and aid to make sure this does not happen.

Thank you for your cooperation.

The Deadly Game

What risk would you take to get 1,000,000 ToriCredits? Would you risk gambling your items and already existing tc? Would you risk stealing textures or plagiarizing art? Would you risk scamming innocent users in the market place? How about risk getting banned?

Getting banned is probably one of the most feared things that can happen to you in a game or forum. Not just not being able to play but the shame and scrutiny that follows. In the event “Deadly Game” banning is used as the equivalent of death if you fail certain tasks. But what is the Dealy Game you ask! It is an event put on by RuBash. Toribash’s Russian community. Personally I wouldn’t go anywhere near it. The basic details about the event say this much:

  • It’s a mostly forum based game where you have to carry out different tasks.
  • It’s sponsored by hampa.
  • The losers will get a ban depending on what round they lose on.
  • There is only one winer and the prize is 1 million ToriCredits.
  • Just under half of RuBash’s funds for this year went into this event.

More details you say? But that’s all that it says! If you want the full story, check here and here.

But what specific tasks do we have to complete? I hear you exclaim again. That’s really all it says. An example was given which goes like so: “Read texts on the previous letters of the alphabet.” You know what it means? I sure don’t.

And here’s some food for thought. Have you seen how many users have signed up so far? Now recall what the event page says. “Only one winner.” Therefore all the others will be losers. Meaning, everyone who signed up except for one user will end up with a ban of some sort. :/ Oh, and did I mention that once you’ve signed up, you can’t withdraw your application? Read all the information carefully before making a decision to enter or not.

Summing up, to me this event falls just short of the category: The cake’s a lie. Do a list of tasks you know nothing about and succeed=Get tc. If you don’t really care about being banned and just want to make some money, be my guest. But beware that the chances are not in your favor.

Mega Super Blog Update

Sup, rabid readers, to the mega, super blog update. In this blog I will cover all of the recent news and happenings in the community because news in Toribash comes and goes like waves, nothing happens for three months and then suddenly there’s five things to write about in one week. So here goes.

First thing I will alert you to, if you didn’t already see, is that GameMaster apps are open! Yes, the Gms are planning to recruit 5 to 10 players to the trial Gm group with apps ending on December 15th and chosen recruits being announced between December 20th to 30th. How exciting! From there, the best are selected to go on the be the elite event holders of the community who so diligently host tournies and events for your entertainment. They also brought us such events as “Llamas Vs Ponies” and the recent Toriolympics, who’s winners were announced yesterday. Russia taking first place America bringing in second place and Lithuania and Australia coming third.

What’s next…Jarmund has been working on a little project called the Toribank. What it is, is an automated user which takes commands via Pm to chuck tc around. An account owner is the overlord and can add account managers, all of who can manage the tc in the account. It also has a logging feature to track who’s using the tc. It is mainly aimed at clans, who have a designated account made to be the bank that all necessary people have access to. This however is a rule infringement under account trading. Now with the Toribank, clans have a secure bank that doesn’t involve breaking rules. More info can be found here and instructions here. Jarmund has also been busy helping with the Toribash server maintenance currently going on. You might have noticed that playing ingame is dodgy and generally not good at the moment, well, it’s because of this. But keep in mind that things have to get worse before they get better so after this we can look forward to a better Toribash. General information about the maintenance can be found here and details about phase 1, here.

The Clan Council is also currently taking apps for new council members. If you are interested in clans and enjoy seeing them grow and develop, send an app to Fish.

Lastly, December 5th is going to be the first Torinational ishi day, where everyone gets to show their love for ishi more than normal. Set your avatars, sigs, usertitles backgrounds, everything, to something ishi related and show how much you love ishi!

I think that’s about it. Solax out.

Happy Halloween

Sup Toribashians and lovers of fright. Well, it’s that time of year again. Tis the season to be scary. Halloween is upon us! The forum has been redecorated accordingly and the GameMasters have a nice Halloween event going. Don’t Look Behind You. It involves running from a Gm playing monster and reaching the end of the course in one piece. The Clan Event Team also has an event going. Halloween Card Maker. It involves editing a monster into a a picture of an innocent little boy sleeping in bed. Good chance to pick up some tc and easy points for your clan!

All in all, it’s going to be another Halloween to remember in Toribash. Go beg for some candy. Happy Halloween everyone!

Tori-Meet Au

Sup guys,

A little while ago, Gorman made a thread in ToriPrime saying he was coming over to Queensland, Australia for a few days. It quickly evolved into the idea to have a little ToriCon thing. In the end it was going to be me, Gorman, Przero and Dalliance. Gorman never showed up. :(

It was pretty funny when we all met up. We had agreed to meet at the train station entrance to this park. I was there first but there was no-one else. I was heading down the stairs to the platform when I see Przero going up the Escalator. (I knew what he looked like from Skype) I run back up the stairs and met up and stuff. He thought it was pretty random. Then we were just sitting on a bench talking when we saw this guy come up the stairs and look around confused. He went to walk past us and Przero was wondering if he was here for the meet. He kinda looked at us in a  funny way and asked us if we were here for the Toricon thing. (Probably would have been smart to share a photo of each other but what ever.) We were like yea, and then it was all cool. So that was Dalliance by the way. We decided to wait around for about 15 minutes after Dalliance showed up to see if Gorman would show. He never did. So the three of us found ourselves in the city with nothing to do.

Przero and Dalliance suggested we go to this place called Timezone, which turned out to be this cool arcade. So we headed over there. I didn’t have any cash so Dalliance shouted me $20 worth. He’s pretty coo’. So we wasted some time there and then went our separate ways. Przero figured we couldn’t call it a conference because only three of us were there. So it shall be known as the ToriMeet Au-2011 Brisbane.

If you didn’t know about this, then I’m not surprised. It was all planned in the ToriPrime secret board. Mwahahahaha.

About the picture bellow, that’s Dalliance on the left and Przero and the right. I’m the amazing photographer behind this. I won’t share a picture of myself because I look terrible in photos. Go to the show yourself thread in offtopic or buy Toriprime if you want to see.

And that’s pretty much the end. I was tallest so it was all good. Just a pitty Gorman didn’t show. He was busy apparently. ;)

Customizeable Sound “Textures”

It was drawn to my attention recently that there are some new items going around Toribash. These items, are custom sound “textures” or modifiers if you like that will replace the Toribash default sound and use yours in its place. What makes these so cool is that they are individual items. If you only want one or two, you can just get them and not the rest or if you are keen you can invest in a whole set of them. Now, you’ll all want proof. The best I can give you, hampa’s inventory. Hopefully you’ll notice all the custom sound items. This is exactly what I’m talking about. A texture item that you upload a .wav file to and modifies your Toribash sound. How cool! There’s is no price set on them at the moment but as they are available for Toribash 3.1 and above, they could be hitting the shops very soon. Funny how the torishop is currently down for maintenance. This also raises questions about how far off Toribash 4.0 actually is.

These custom sound items will open up new avenues all over the forum from orgs dedicated to creating sound packs to specialized sound designers in the market ready to create packs for rich investors looking for something unique. Every sound will be available in item form. Below is a small description of each one taken from a translated version of Eddy’s Portuguese post here. Big thanks to him for this. He also told me about the whole custom sound subject.

Sound hard break: fracture / dismembered;
DQ Sound: decommissioning;
Sound Draw: draw;
Fight Alert Sound: sound alerts you when our turn came to play, usually when the queue is long or Toribash is running minimized / background;
Foot Step Sound: footprint, step;
Foul Sound: No, sound disabled from the time that the sounds were implanted in the game;
Freeze Enter Sound: The sound of Wii Toribash, Toribash is likely to be implemented in 4.0, the version for Nintendo Wii is a subtle effect at the time for Tori or back in time to move, like a “fade-in” and a “fade-out.” That’s the sound when Tori goes into “freeze”;
Exit Freeze Sound: and here it leaves the “freeze”.
Sound Grading: pass band;
Grip Sound: sound relatively new, launched in recent versions, sound, or run when you hold something opponent;
Hard Impact Sound 1-2: raid on / between objects, strong;
1-5 Hit Sound: hit among Toris;
1-3 Hit Head Sound: knock on the head;
Change Joint Sound: Sounds of the joints, also added recent notation, this sounds when we change the status of the joint (force 1 or 2);
Hold Joint Sound: When we change the status of the joint (hold, relax);
Over Joint Sound: When we highlight the joint;
Click Menu Sound: sound is disabled since the beginning of the Toribash, when there was a symbol of the Toribash that opened the main menu (key) along with control buttons replays, such as fast forward, rewind, pause and play (they will return to duty, God Hampus want);
Mini Sound Impact 1-2: Toris weak beat;
Neck Fracture Sound: The sound of the famous Tori choking on his blood. Fracture neck.
Pain 1.8 Sound: groans of pain … (Delight);
Ready Sound: sound that is executed by pressing “space” as far as multiplayer freeplay;
Select Player Sound: Switch between players (freeplay);
Shout Sound: new sound will play when using the scream / shout;
Slowdown Sound: the famous “pssiiumm” which is played when it happens many collisions and dismemberment at the same time, or when a part of the Tory (or uke) is released in high-speed collision with an object or even glitch.
Soft Sound Impact 1-2: batita between / against objects, weak;
Sound Splash 1-9: blood dripping / flowing;
Feet Swoosh Sound: sound similar to the displacement of air generated by the feet to kick / move;
Swoosh Hand Sound: sound similar to the displacement of air generated by the hands to punch / move;
Swoosh Sound: sound similar to the displacement of air generated by objects in general.
Weapon Sound Clash: collision between two objects that have been marked as a “weapon” in making the mod. Sound off since the beginning of the Toribash sounds, now coming Necromancer;
Weapon Hit Sound: Beat an object marked as a “weapon” against a Tory, too old sound, as above;
Win Sound: new sound, is the sound will be executed when there is a points victory.ng.

That’s a lost of sounds. Even if each one only costs between 2-5k, that’s a lot of tc for a whole set. All I can say is watch the market and watch the news thread. These items, and 4.0 might be closer than you think. ;)
